INFORMATION ON HOTEL INDUSTRY.
What is a Hotel industry?
Hotel industry or in other words called as Hospitality Industry is a place that provides lodging (rooms), food, drinks,indoor games (pool table, table tennis etc) swimming pool, gym, site seeing, boat cruise,organises parties and events. The main objective of this industry is to provide a comfortable stay for strangers and guests who come from far away places for a business trip or a personal tour.
Departments of a hotel industry and functions related to it.
This industry has 7 main departments. They are as mentioned below.
- RECEPTION / FRONT OFFICE :- When the guest arrives at the hotel he has to enter the reception for registering his stay in the hotel. Here the procedure is completed like doing check in of the guest with proper documents and alloting rooms. A brief information of the services / facilities provided by the hotel are given to the guest.
- HOUSEKEEPING :- This department looks after the luxury of the guest. They provide room cleaning, bath towel, bath soap, candles, match box, mosquito repellent, bedsheet, extra bed or mattress if needed. They also do bed decorations for different occasions if guest requires.
- FOOD AND BEVERAGE :- When a guest needs food or drinks he approaches the restaurant. Here the orders are taken from the guest and delicious food is served.If a guest plans to have buffet breakfast, lunch or dinner, then he can go for it.If a guest plans to have a cocktail or dinner party, then the restaurant staff does the necessary arrangement. Food is also provided in guest rooms if they need a room service.
- MAINTAINENCE :- The team of this department is not directly experienced by the guest, but is responsible for the successful operating of the hotel industry. They are also responsible for the smooth operating of lights, toilet flushes , and many other functions like T.V., air - conditioners etc and also responsible for the continuous supply of water to the rooms . If by any chance they don't operate or have some technical fault in its functioning, that is the time when this department takes full control to rectify and solve the fault immediately. It also gives immediate D.G. supply to the hotel rooms in case of power failure.
- ACCOUNTS :- Financial transactions are done in this department. They are responsible for recording and reporting the cash flow transactions of the company. They look after the amount received, amount paid, payrolls and maintain financial controls, preparing profit and loss balance sheets ,chasing late payments, reporting bad debts and carefully maintaining the cash flow , charges of guest rooms, late charges and payments of vendors and suppliers.
- HUMAN RESOURCES:- They play a very vital role in the hotels efficient operation. They do recruiting and training of new hires, managing employee data. retention of skilled and qualified employees, preparing job description, interviewing of eligible candidates, extending employment offers and discussing compensation packages.
STOREKEEPER :- He has the main responsibility to receive, store and issue supplies and equipments for the day to day hotel operations. They are closely linked with the purchase department for the purchases that has to be done to the hotel. He verifies the requisition for all the goods that are given to them is mentioned in it. They have to maintain the records of stock received and stock delivered on daily basis. He has to check all goods that arrives as mentioned on the delivery note.
